Our latest mystery quilt project begins posting on Monday! We can hardly wait to start sharing the pattern! We have learned a lot about Dr Franklin over the past year or so putting together the pieces for this quilt. He lead a fascinating life and there is lots to tell!
We would like to take the time to answer a few frequently asked questions here:
How many block patterns does the pattern have? Although the blocks will post as a block of the month (BOM), there are more than 12 blocks in the pattern! The blocks will post once a month until all of the blocks in the project have posted. Benjamin Franklin lead a very interesting life...more than what fits in a 12-month program!
You certainly seem to know a lot about Benjamin Franklin! Where did you learn it all? Most of our information comes from the wide number of books, including Dr. Franklin's own autobiography, written about him. We have visited his neighborhood in Philadelphia, PA as well as his neighborhood in Paris, France. We have added a page on our Amazon Store where you can purchase many of the books we have used in our research!
I love the Ben Franklin mug posted on the side of your webpage. Where can I buy one?! The mug on our sidebar has Ben Franklin's signature on it! We purchased it at Zazzle.com! Since we are a Zazzle Associate (we earn a small advertising fee), we have added more Ben Franklin souvenirs from Zazzle along our sidebar we thought you would enjoy purchasing!
What day will you post the next pattern? Sometime during each calendar month we will post each new block; the date will be random (for the surprise!) but it will always be on a Monday.
What happens if I miss a set of instructions? Do not worry, we have linked all of the instructions to the Benjamin Franklin Mystery Quilt button on the right side of the screen (under DON'T MISS A STEP) and to the gray Benjamin Franklin ribbon on the left side of the screen. Click on either button to access all of the instructions that have posted to date.
How much fabric should I buy? We are presenting this project as a scrap quilt. We will only list the pieces to be cut (and the colors as they appear in our sample) and when needed yardage for borders or binding. If you want to make the quilt in a non-scrappy version, you may want to wait as the blocks post, to determine home much fabric you will need.
The sample fabric is very nice. Where did you get it? Our sample is made from Clermont Farms by Moda Fabrics and designed by Minick and Simpson. We will post more about this beautiful fabric once the project starts!
Is this a difficult quilt? Each block in this quilt is different with varying degrees of difficulty. We think that anyone who puts their mind to it can make these blocks. Having said that, if you find a particular block hard to do, save it for a few months after you have gained some exerience, then tackle it. As with anything, practice is always important.
How many blocks will there be? Quite a few. Dr Franklin lead a long life full of achievements and accomplishments. We would be unable to recount them all, as much as we would like! We will keep the exact number a secret...it is part of the mystery!
I will be out of town for a few months, may I get the next block ahead of time? Sorry, we know how exciting a mystery quilt can be, but no. We will not share any block ahead of time, that would be unfair to those who are waiting and sewing their blocks on time. If you miss a step, you can always catch up and find the missing instructions as we have described above.
From now until Monday, get your rulers and fabric ready; we will be back on Monday! See you then!
