Adding words, comments, and captions is part of the fun of scrapbooking and paper crafting. Sadly few computer's hard drives contain creative or fresh fonts that could enliven a page. Fortunately Autumn Leaves, from Creativity, Inc has a solution for boring-font sydrome.
We discovered this Just Your Type GIRLISH font program from Autumn Leaves at our local crafts store. Twelve featured fonts come on one CD and are usable on either a MAC or PC and are fresh, clear, and easy to read. At a very reasonable price, we thought we would give it a try, and hopefully add twelve new fonts to our computer's repertoire.
We were a bit concerned when we found no written instructions included with our new CD. When we inserted the CD into our E-drive, nothing happened. Disappointment set in. Not to panic, we decided to give in another shot, and ejected the new CD...and started over. This time it worked, the CD registered and the files appeared. We did the ever-useful "click-and-install". The directory failed. The sinking feeling of "something must be wrong" started to attack. Not to panic, a quick back-step to the CD files rendered the READ ME file with the instructions and an alternate installation method. Again, we hit a dead end. There must be another way, or maybe something we don't know about. We removed the CD and went straight to our computer's help index looking for how to install fonts. Another set of instructions arrived, we printed them, and started over. It was that easy. Step-by-step, one-at-a-time, we installed all twelve fonts, no problem. It just took a little figuring out. And I must say, we like our new fresh letters! In fact, we are hoping to add the rest of the series...
With a little more investigating, we found that the software pre-dates our computer's operating system. As easy as that, we think this is why the extra step was neccessary and why we were not able to just "point, click, install". Other computers may differ, but we suggest having a copy of your computer's help topic on installing (adding) fonts on hand before you try to install one of these. Don't panic and take your time...it is well worth the effort. As we learned, stay cool "as a cucumber" and you'll have clever new fonts that won't cause any yawns!
Autumn Leaves offers several different fonts in CD/software form including the GIRLISH fonts we chose, but also, BOYISH, JOURNALING, QUIRKY, and RETRO. Look for Just Your Type Font software at your local craft store, or visit www.creativityinc.com for more information.
Here is a little note card we made using six of our new fonts! To make your own, use your Autumn Leaves GIRLISH fonts and word processor program. Type "hello" in Dutch, German, Italian, French, Japanese, and English, each in a different font; vary the font size as you like. Print the document onto colored paper, trim to fit a folded note card. Glue the trimmed paper onto another piece of slightly larger paper, trimmed to fit the note card. Glue "Hello" paper to folded card.
