It is hard to imagine making anything more than the greatest scissors in the world...and along comes the best rotary cutter we have ever used! The people at Gingher have done just that! The Gingher Rotary Cutter (the standard 45mm) whips through several layers of fabric with ease and accuracy. During testing we found that the blade is a breeze to change (with the turn of a screw) and ours has stayed very sharp cutting all kinds of fabrics and layers. When stowed in the safety postition, the blade is well protected and secure--all it takes is the click of a button!
Although the cutter doesn't look very ergonomic, it is; the balance, or the way the cutter fits and feels in the hand, is pleasant and unstressful. The cutter's own weight, heavier than most, is part of its sturdiness and durability, that seemed to help when cutting through those multiple layers of calico, allowing us to actually use less force while pushing forward; a very "stable" cut--not staggered or jagged. The appeal of the rotary cutter is well up to par with other Gingher products--sleek and modern, and comes with its own handsome storage tin. We feel this cutter, although expensive compared to other rotary cutters, is money well spent. This cutter worked well along side many of the rulers we already use and, other than extra blades (and we suggest the Gingher replacement blades made for this cutter), is all anyone should need for great cutting. What an excellent gift for the quilter who has just about everything, or a welcome addition to your own sewing box...we think you will really like it!
