Make a pretty bunch of flower pens in no time flat! Use them as wedding or shower favors for your guests to take home. Group them together in a small vase for a lovely centerpiece.
For each favor you will need
1 ball-point pen with removable ink barrel and end cap
1 silk flower with stem
narrow green floral tape
wire cutters, scissors, bamboo skewer, small pliers
Gently disassemble pen by removing ink barrel and end cap.* With wire cutters, cut floral stem to desired length-long enough to run down the side of the pen barrel.** Begin wrapping the floral tape, at a slight angle, about 1/4-inch above the end of the tube.
Wrap and pull the tape so that it sticks to itself, about 1/2-inch down. Using the bamboo skewer, gently stuff the extending tape into the tube and replace end cap. Place the floral stem along the length of the tube, with the flower on the same end as the end cap. Continue wrapping and pulling the floral tape around both the stem and the tube until the stem and the tube are completlely covered. Wrap the tape 1/2-inch past the end of the tube, and as before, use the skewer to stuff the extending tape into the tube. Gently force the ink barrel back into the tube.
*We found that most pens have an ink barrel that is easy to remove by gently twisting and pulling; we could then push the end cap off by inserting the bamboo skewer into the tube and popping it out. You may find small pliers helpful for this.
**Vary the length of your floral stems if you plan to use them in a bouquet.
