Wassial! Wassail! With a citrus "punch"!
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 12 whole cloves
- 2 two-inch sticks of cinnamon
- 3 quarts orange juice (from concentrate or fresh squeezed)
- 1 quart cranberry juice cocktail
In a large saucepan or dutch oven, combine sugar, water, and spices; simmer gently for 10 minutes. Remove cloves and cinnamon sticks. Add orange and cranberry juices; heat.
Serve from the warm pan or pour into a heat-proof punchbowl or soup terrine. Float baked oranges on top of the punch.
For the baked oranges: stud 3 oranges with whole cloves, place in baking dish and bake at 350-degrees F for about one hour.
